| Congressman Patrick McHenry Hosted Town Hall Meeting |

admin writes, "After Congressman Patrick McHenry toured the new addition of the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital earlier in the day, he spoke to a group of concerned citizens at Abundant Life Outreach Center. Some of the subjects of discussion that came up were vet's benefits, immigration issues and healthcare."

Some of the questions that Congressman Patrick McHenry answered were as to why he only voted on two of the twelve bills that were brought forward. Congressman McHenry stated that the one bill concerning Department of Defense funding wasn't enough money but was more than what is available now and will work to make sure the Defense has the funds it needs to do the job it needs to do. The other bill he voted yes to had to do with the Vet Fund Bill. Again, even though the amount approved was a 10% increase, it was something to start getting more money to those that served their country and he will continue to work to get the vets what they deserve. Another situation that concerned Mayland Community College was the fact that if there is a lack of eligibility to get scholarships for potential students, MCC will loose federal funding and make it harder to get those that need the scholarships financial help. Congressman McHenry understood the catch-22 and is working to get money to the state level so that the ability to get the community colleges the funds they need is not so difficult and the colleges won't be harmed by the eligibility problems. Congressman McHenry stated that, "the immigration laws and proceedures are antiquated it's immoral and needs to be completely redone. When an immigrant that came to the United States legally, has waited 20+ years to become a legal citizen, and has most of the paperwork missing to become a legal citizen, that is a real problem that needs to be addressed and fixed". While explaining how badly some of the bills are written he relayed a story that while looking over an energy bill he saw that one million dollars was appropriated to encourage citizens to ride bicycles to work. While this is practical, it’s not probable. My husband works down in Marion and I could see him FLYING down the mountain. I had to laugh. Congressman McHenry will be in different town halls throughout this month and I REALLY encourage you to go and get REAL answers to the questions you might have and/or get your concerns heard. They won’t just go in one ear and out the other, and you might just get a good laugh as well!
